Blast From the Past

In effort to earn more money than my job currently provides, I've decided to start a little side business. Relying on my one marketable talent, sewing; I am going back to my roots and making quilts, specifically custom T-shirt quilts. I am in the middle of finishing my "prototype" and pictures will be up soon on quiltsbylinz.etsy.com! While working on the "bio" section of my etsy shop, I thought it would be fun to show some photos of my development as a quilter over the years. After phone calls to my Mom, Nana, and Aunt Linda, here's what we could find!

I don't know which I miss more, my bangs, braces or bright purple nail polish!

... All Dressed in White

I am absolutely no where near ready to get married, and to be honest, I have never really been one of those girls who has been dreaming and planning her wedding since age 6. Sometimes I think running off to Vegas or Mexico will actually be a good idea for me some day. That is until I saw this gown from Oscar de la Renta's Spring 2011 collection which appeared on the NYC runways two weeks ago. I was absolutely awestruck. A wedding is (hopefully) a once in a lifetime experience, and the only opportunity to wear an over-the-top white dress. How could I ever turn that down? The construction detail in this dress is exquisite. It has movement but still figure flattering. I have recently been paying more attention to Bridal fashion, seeing as one of my best girlfriends has asked me to make her dress when she decides to walk down the isle. It's quite an undertaking, which I why I am starting to collect ideas now. I don't know whether my skill level will ever be that of Oscar's, but I am thankful for the inspiration. Still need to meet the right guy, but when that day comes, maybe I will make my own over-the-top white dress too!

Suit Up!

So, I don't know whether any of you have seen this show, but if you haven't I highly recommend you check it out! The roles these characters play, at times, seem quite in line with what myself, and my closest friends are up to in San Francisco. There's the fun-loving, sincere, and genuinely happy couple; the wild and crazy, willing to make a party if he can't find one cool enough guy; and the quirky but suave guy who's a good friend, with a good head on his shoulders. The character I would play is a hard-working chick, who can kick it with the guys, but also likes her time out with the girls, and still hasn't quite figured out what she wants in life. Yup, that sounds about right.
Anyways, it seems that in almost every episode, Barney (Neil Patrick Harris's character) is trying to get his other friends to "Suit-Up" with him. To honor that aspect of the show, we ourselves like to "Suit-Up" from time to time, and hit the SF bars in search of a good time. While I didn't get a stellar picture of my outfit from last friday night's adventure, he is a pic of me and the boys, enjoying a nice dirty martini, before a night of debauchery. Thank God blazers are still an "in-look" for women this season so that I can play along! I'm sure I will have many more, How I Met Your Mother inspired outfits to come!
